Phase 1 · Build

WordPress Development in London

Websites built to load fast, rank well and be updated by you without a developer on call. Structured for search from day one, so the SEO work that follows costs less.

The problem

Why most WordPress sites disappoint

The typical story: a site gets assembled from a premium theme and twenty-six plugins because each one solved a problem in the moment.

It looks fine on the developer’s machine. Six months later it takes eight seconds to load on a phone, two plugins have stopped being maintained, and nobody in the business dares touch a page in case something breaks.

A WordPress site should get easier to run over time, not harder. That’s mostly a decision made in the first week of the build.

Why WordPress sites end up slow

The five things that actually cause it

This is worth understanding before you commission anyone, because it’s what separates a £600 site from one that still works in three years.

Plugin accumulation

Every plugin adds code that loads on every page — often on pages that don’t need it. Twenty-six plugins to run a ten-page brochure site is common and almost never necessary.

Page builders used carelessly

Builders like Elementor let non-developers edit pages, which is genuinely valuable. They also add significant weight. Used deliberately, that trade is worth making. Used by default on every element, it isn’t.

Unoptimised images

A photo straight from a phone can be four megabytes. Ten of them on a homepage is the single most common cause of a slow site, and the easiest to fix.

Cheap shared hosting

£3 a month buys you a server shared with hundreds of other sites. Hosting is not where to save money — it affects every page load, every visitor, every day.

No caching or delivery layer

Without caching, WordPress rebuilds each page from the database on every request. With it, most visitors get a pre-built page instantly.

How we handle it

We audit plugin need rather than plugin convenience, use page builders where you’ll genuinely benefit from editing pages yourself, compress and convert every image at build time, and configure caching and hosting properly before launch rather than after someone complains.

What's included

In every WordPress build

Mobile-first responsive build

Designed for phones first, because that's where most visitors arrive.

Technical SEO foundation

Schema markup, clean URLs, XML sitemap and crawlable site architecture.

Tracking installed at launch

Analytics, Search Console and conversion tracking configured before going live.

Content management training

A walkthrough so your team can edit pages without calling us.

Speed optimisation

Image compression, caching, minimal scripts and Core Web Vitals tuning.

Security hardening

Login protection, regular updates, automated backups and SSL configured properly.

Redirect mapping on rebuilds

Every old URL pointed to its replacement, so rankings survive the move.

Everything in your name

Domain, hosting and all logins registered to you from day one.

Our process

How a build runs

Step 01

Audit & scope

We look at what exists, what’s working and what isn’t, then agree a written scope with a fixed price before anything starts.

Step 02

Structure & wireframe

Page architecture, URL structure and content hierarchy agreed first — because these are the decisions SEO depends on later.

Step 03

Design

Custom design from the Growth tier upwards, or a properly customised premium theme at Essential. You approve before we build.

Step 04

Build

Development, content population, responsive testing, speed optimisation, schema markup and tracking installed before anything goes live.

Step 05

Launch & handover

Redirects mapped, everything transferred into your name, and a walkthrough so your team can update pages confidently.

Who this is for

WordPress is probably right for you if

You're a service business where content and search matter most

You want to edit pages yourself without paying a developer

You need between five and fifty pages, with room to grow

You're planning SEO and need a foundation that supports it

You want to own the platform outright, with no monthly licence

WordPress probably isn’t right if you’re selling hundreds of products with complex variants — look at Shopify or WooCommerce instead. Or if the software is your product, in which case you need a custom build. We’ll tell you which before quoting.

Where this fits

Build is phase one of four

A WordPress build is the foundation the rest of the system sits on.

Because we install schema, clean structure and tracking at launch, phase two costs less — SEO starts optimising on day one instead of spending six weeks fixing development decisions. Because forms are built expecting a CRM, phase three doesn’t require rewiring them. And because content is structured to be extractable, AI search work in phase two has something to work with.

You don’t have to take any phase beyond this one. But if you ever do, this is what makes it cheaper.

WordPress questions

Frequently asked

Two to three weeks for a five-page site, three to five weeks for a typical twelve-page business site. Larger builds run six to eight weeks depending on functionality.

Yes. Migrations need careful URL mapping so rankings survive — every old address redirected to its replacement before launch. Skipping that step is why most migrations lose traffic.
